To ensure optimal vision and to prevent vision disorders, the Government has introduced the 2023 Eyewear Bonus, an initiative aimed at supporting people in the purchase of prescription glasses or sunglasses and considered as part of a broader strategy for people’s well-being. This is a very important initiative, considering that 6 out of 10 Italians suffer from visual defects. Glasses Bonus 2023, what it is and how to get it
The 2023 Eyewear Bonus is an economic contribution that is granted to those who need to buy prescription glasses or corrective lenses and are in a state of economic hardship.
This is a one-off measure with a total value of 50 euros that is granted to family members with an ISEE income of less than 10,000 euros.
It can be requested by each member of the household who meets the ISEE requirement, only once for each.
The Bonus can only be spent on the purchase of corrective products. So it cannot be used for the purchase of sunglasses or colored contact lenses.
The incentive expires on December 31, 2023 and is valid both for expenses that have already been made and for those still to be made, always by December 31 of this year.
Due to the long wait before operation, the Eyewear Bonus for some citizens has turned into a “retroactive measure” that also applies to expenses already incurred.
As provided for by the 2021 Budget Law , it is possible to benefit from the contribution of 50 euros for the purchase of glasses and contact lenses not only for expenses made from 5 May, the day applications are open, but also for all those costs that have been incurred in the previous months, from 1 January 2021 to 4 May 2023.
Who is entitled to the Bonus
From 5 May 2023, it is possible to apply for the 2023 Eyewear Bonus to all Italian citizens with an ISEE income of less than 10,000 euros and who need prescription glasses or corrective contact lenses.
In particular, people on low incomes or in situations of economic vulnerability can benefit more from this initiative.
In fact, the bonus covers a significant percentage of the cost of glasses, thus reducing the financial burden on families.
How to access the 2023 Eyewear Bonus?
In order to access the 2023 Eyewear Bonus , it is necessary to comply with certain requirements established by the Government.
First of all, you must be an Italian citizen or legal resident of the country. Secondly, only those with an ISEE income of less than 10,000 euros can apply for the Bonus.
To request it, you need to access the platform created by the Ministry of Health (bonusvista.it) by registering through your SPID, CIE or CNS.
It is necessary to provide the required documentation, i.e. the ISEE, which is verified by INPS and, in the event of a positive outcome of the check, the bonus will be issued in one of two ways:
- recognition of a voucher with a maximum value of € 50.00 that the user registered on the platform will find in his or her reserved area, if the purchase has not yet been made;
- reimbursement of the expense incurred if the purchase of prescription glasses or corrective lenses was made between 1 January 2021 and 4 May 2023. In this case, the applicant must enter his Iban and a copy of the invoice certifying the purchase on the platform.
Once the voucher has been obtained, the entitled person will have 30 days from the day of issue to spend it in a single solution. However, the voucher can only be used at one of the participating stores, both physical and online.
On the platform, the user has the opportunity to access the list of affiliated businesses, which to date are over 4,400 throughout the country.
